the simplest magic trick

Can someone do the barest magic trick
the night is growing on me
twines, pines intertwined
the oaks are breaking off
crisping out a chirp I no longer recognise
The wolves are howling for home
Turning their necks on my muse they no longer recognise
But can you see
the vague familiarity in any crest of my spine
last December
or the one before that
Same Homeland
Same Moonlight
Same Night
Can you peak in behind the curtains
So we could talk about foresights
Can you walk into my yesterdays
So I could have someone to reminisce tonight.
